Smith is a native of Columbus, Mississippi. He attended the University of Mississippi and received his Bachelor’s degree in English. He took pre-med courses and intended to apply to medical school. After graduating, he joined the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association and is a member of the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association.

Allen Smith has extensive experience in the field of fire investigation and has authored several articles on various subjects. He has worked with the National Institute of Standards and Technology on scientific test burn protocols and has served as a member of the National Fire Protection Association’s Fire Investigations Committee since 1992. He is also the current representative of the International Fire Service Training Association on the NFPA 921 committee and has contributed his expertise to the publication of instructional manuals on fire investigation.
